A STORY FOR WORLD FOOD DAY
Some days the stars just align and everything comes together. Yesterday was one of those days. A while ago we received a generous donation of Sweet Potato Beer Batter Steak Cut fries from McCain. Had we not accepted this donation, these delicious and perfectly safe to eat fries would all have been thrown away. We didn’t have cold storage, so our friends at Turn n Slice agreed to keep them in their freezer for us until we could use them.
Yesterday, with the help of new collaborations and friends, we moved the whole lot to our Sharehouse and then distributed to our hubs who have capacity to utilise the fries immediately.
African Reclaimers Organisation is an organisation we are so excited to have as a new friend! They generously lent us their recently donated truck for a few hours AND we also got help from Jay Bhemnarayan from FTS Logistics, Unit 16, City Deep Micro Park. Jay lent us his forklift and Simon, their driver, to offload today.
Luyanda from African Reclaimers Organisation was then able to give back to their waste pickers.
Thanks to all our volunteers who helped today and all our hubs who came to collect today.
Final thanks to Sakura Butler for putting this whole puzzle together today.
This small story clearly tells the bigger story- of more than one million meals that our Chefs with Compassion kitchens have produced with what would have become food waste. None of this would have been possible without the partnerships we have made and continue to cherish.

Happy World Food Day, and please take a moment today to think about food waste and how to be part of the solution not part of the problem.
